Criteria for Nonprofits

Positive environmental impact

  • Alignment with 1+ SDG: Mission and goals must align with at least one SDG.
  • Sustainable: Prioritize responsible resource use, and ensure long-term viability.
  • Regeneration: Actively engage in practices that restore natural resources, reduce emissions, protect biodiversity, and combat climate change.
  • Measuring and Reducing Emissions: Commit to reducing carbon emissions by tracking and reporting direct (Scope 1), indirect (Scope 2), and value chain (Scope 3) greenhouse gas emissions using simple and cost-effective tools.

Positive impact on inclusive human well-being

  1. Social Impact: Positively impact social well-being, equality, education, health, and human rights, focusing on local communities and their staff.
  2. Inclusive Governance: Inclusive decision-making with diverse voices, including impacted community members (such as high school students, seniors, and their frontline staff), making sure to gather feedback and adapt programs accordingly.
  3. Local Context and Cultural Sensitivity: Operate with an understanding of local context and cultural sensitivity, tailoring interventions to community needs.
  4. Collaboration and Partnerships: Willing and able to collaborate with other organizations, stakeholders, and communities to achieve their goals.
  5. Long-Term Commitment:  Commit to long-term sustainability goals and strategies to address future changes, including contingency plans to deal with changes and uncertainties in the future.
  6. Employee Well-Being: Prioritise healthy wages, safe conditions, professional development, life balance, and well-being for all employees.

Willingness to collaborate

  1. Transparency and Positive Impact: Transparent operations, finances, and impact by measuring, reporting, and demonstrating the positive effects of their work on their chosen SDG through rigorous research and evaluation.
  2. Robust Governance and Accountability: Comprehensive governance practices, accountability mechanisms, and stakeholder responsiveness.
  3. Cost-Effectiveness: Optimal resource allocation and transparent overhead
  4. Scale and Scalability: Potential to scale impact
  5. Impact on Systemic Change: Seek to address root causes and drive systemic change rather than merely addressing symptoms. Considering the long-term effects on the broader social or environmental context.

This criteria will evolve with the market and will always prioritise the planet first, as everything else will only work long-term with a healthy planet.

Important

We believe in constant learning and improvement and are committed to nurturing the growth of our partners as we all strive to meet the SDGs together.

If a nonprofit or project does not meet our requirements initially, we will offer support to guide them on how to meet the criteria, enabling them to re-apply for a partnership once they fulfil our requirements.

If existing partners fall short on specific requirements, they will continue to receive funding with a disclaimer on their profile until they make the necessary improvements, and we will take proactive measures to support them in exceeding the benchmarks in the following review period.

We strive to apply a holistic approach to evaluating the alignment of nonprofits and projects with our set principles. Rather than a rigid scoring system, we focus on organisations' overall performance and commitment to sustainability, regeneration, transparency, and impact.

The Qualifying Process

  1. Preliminary Documentation Review: The Transpact team will review the organisation's website, bank statements, documents, policies, and reports.
  2. Stakeholder Surveys and Interviews: A random selection of all stakeholders (such as beneficiaries, partners, and supporters) will be surveyed and interviewed to evaluate the impact of the organisation's activities and alignment with the Transpact criteria.
  3. Team Surveys and Interviews: Feedback from their team, including frontline staff and volunteers, will be collected to assess the organisation's commitment to the Transpact criteria, as they are the ones who know what is happening internally.
  4. Detailed Audits: Detailed audits will be carried out to assess the organisation's policies, procedures, and actions. These audits will be carried out by qualified Transpact team members.
  5. Data Collection and Analysis: Data collected throughout the auditing process will be analysed to assess the organisation's adherence to our criteria and overall environmental impact. This will help identify areas for improvement.
  6. Feedback and Improvement: Post-audit, the organisations will receive feedback on how to improve even further and be onboarded as trusted partners. If they don't yet meet the Transpact criteria, they will receive detailed feedback on every area for improvement and can re-apply once improvements have been made.
  7. Continuous Monitoring: To ensure ongoing adherence to our standards, organizations will undergo periodic reviews and reassessments to continue to meet and improve upon the Transpact criteria over time. These audits will randomly occur at least once a year and will be funded by Transpact.
